FAQ 2139
Can I request an MFD for my office?

Each individual MFD contributes to the overall service, in terms of its functions and its throughput.

MFDs generally perform more efficiently if they're placed in corridors, and available to be accessed by the greatest number of users. However, in certain areas this may be impractical, and in these circumstances a calculation is made based on the expected throughput versus the rental cost to the University. Although individual devices which make a loss can be balanced out by high-performing devices elsewhere, overall the service has to support itself. For this reason, a request for an office-based MFD will need to be supported by some indication of likely throughput, so that an assessment can be made of its financial viability.
