New/1st Year Students
Before the Autumn term begins, new students with optional modules at 'level 1' or 'stage 1' will need to choose and register for those they wish to study in their first year in order for these modules to appear on their personal timetable. New students will be contacted by their respective departments about how and when they should register for modules.
The exception is for 1st year Law students, for whom module registration for term 2 optional modules is made during term 1. The Law department will inform you when module registration is open.
Returning Students
For returning students, Online Module Selection usually opens in March for you to make your module choices for the next Academic year, but your department will notify you by email when this opens. Students should visit their departmental website for course specific details regarding module registration.
The Module Registration Process
The online module choice system will include a deadline before which the online selection must be submitted. Places on all modules are restricted due to space, timetable, equipment, and library considerations. For all these reasons it is possible that you will not be allocated your first choices.
External Modules
Depending on the modules required by your degree programme (see your Unit website for programme specifications), undergraduate students normally have the right to take modules to the value of 30 credits at each stage from outside their programmes. Please note that Law students are usually only allowed to take 30 credits outside of their subject area over the entire course of their programme.
