If you are from Croatia you need to obtain permission before you start working in the UK. You and your employer could be prosecuted if you start work without obtaining your certificate. See the Career Zone guidance on their website.
Otherwise, if you are from Europe, but not from Croatia, you will need to apply for a National Insurance Number, once you have found a job.
To apply you will need to phone the Jobcentre Plus on 0845 600 0643; it is free to apply.
Please make sure you have the following details to hand when you ring:
Full name
Date of birth (DOB)
Address and postcode
The date you arrived in the UK
